"About the Author"

Debby and Foofer O'Toole Hunt

(Above): Me and Foofer (October 2000).

I almost didn't make this page; but I suppose there should be some information "about the author". Well, I'm not too good in regards to writing about myself (I'd rather write about fictional characters!). But I'm giving it a whirl!

I was born Deborah Elizabeth O'Toole in Greenwich, Connecticut, on August 29, 1961. (Yes, I'm 40 now!). My family moved around a lot, and I have lived in Texas (Newgulf); California (Danville); Nevada (Reno); Arizona (Tucson); Idaho (Pocatello); and Utah (Tooele, Murray, Salt Lake City and Bountiful).

I am an only child, and I have always loved solitary pursuits - like reading and writing. When I was 12 years old, my favorite books were about Henry VIII. I have been writing for as long as I can remember, and of course my mother has saved everything!

I didn't like school, although I did graduate from high school (in Reno). I am basically self-taught on everything I know about writing and computers. I find that is the best learning tool there is. You never seem to forget if you learn something on your own, especially if you end up doing it the hard way sometimes!

I wrote "Larkin" in 1984, and there it sat until about 1996, when I picked it up and virtually re-wrote the whole story. Then a few more years passed before I decided to do anything with it. When I started that, the sequels just came to me as I went (I wrote "Passion Unrequited" in a few weeks).

I am currently working on a book entitled "For Chee's Sake", and it has nothing to do with the LARKIN TRILOGY. It's about a female Irish terrorist and her English lover, who also happens to be the son of an Earl!

As I've hinted in my newsletter, EBOOK NOTES, I am also writing another novel (historical and autobiographical in content, but dramatized. This book will be quite lengthy when complete). Try as I might, there simply aren't enough hours in the day for me.

Writing can be a very rewarding, although sometimes frustrating, process. But I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Even I wonder where the story ideas come from at times!

Some Trivia:

*I love windy, cloudy and rainy days!
*I drink way too much coffee!
*I smoke too much!
*My favorite food is noodles & butter!
*I love Foofer!
*And Wilbert!
*(Mum & Dad, too!)
*I do needlepoint!
*Besides writing & reading, I adore solitaire games!
*Autumn is my best season!
*I become obsessive when I'm writing!
*I avoid crowds and like staying home!
*The only things I like to "shop" for are books, dog stuff and computer accessories! Forget clothes and make-up!
*I don't go out to the movies - I wait until the ones I want to watch come out on video. I must have been the only person in the world who waited to see TITANIC on video!

Below is the weather for where I live!

****

I have been divorced twice: at various times in my life I have been Debby O'Toole, Debby Dalton and Debby Hunt (men should have to change THEIR names! I hate standing in line at the DMV!).

I've been dating Wilbert Alviso since last December; and we're quite a pair. I'm sarcastic, and he has an ego! But we're doing just fine, and he's the only man I've been able to talk to about anything!

Current Reading:

I am currently reading "Legacy" by Susan Kay. This book is a dramtization of the life of Elizabeth I, and it's excellent. I read this book years ago, but lost my copy in the many moves I've made. I recently located another copy through an out-of-print service I use, and I love it!

Besides my web sites and my regular writing, I work full-time, plus I read a lot of technical material on computers. I am also trying to research some old history for another book I'm writing, and this can be very time-consuming. I want the story to be very accurate and reflect the historical era I'm writing about. I know I need reading glasses at this point, and that will be my next appointment (if something else doesn't fall apart or wear out first, that is!).

But I do love to read!

*DARK SHADOWS
(on the Sci-Fi Channel).

As of November 2001, I have researched and written seven articles on the food and culture of various countries (Japan, Russia, Mexico, Ireland, Greece, Wales, and most recently, Monaco). I have also written an extra feature about the Halloween traditions of these countries, called "Halloween Cuisine." If you would like to read these articles, please click on the link below:
